How To Apply Resiblock ‘22’

9th October 2020

Resiblock ’22’ is a block paving sealer suitable for clay and concrete installations. Typically, it’s used in heavy duty environments including car parks, airports, roads, pavements and driveways. If you want to prolong the life of your block paving installation, then using Resiblock ‘22’ is a must. Here are some tips to provide you with the best way to apply your paving sealant.

Calculate The Volume of Resiblock ‘22’ You Need

Before you begin your sealant project, you should calculate how much Resiblock ’22’ you’ll need to complete the project. The amount you need can vary between 1.6-2.4 m2 per litre, although you might expect to use 2.0 m2 per litre on new concrete installations. Ultimately, this will depend on the type of paver and joint penetration that’s needed. It’s a good idea to test out your sealant on a smaller area first, to allow you to calculate how much you’ll need for the entire project.

Preparing The Area

Preparation of your paving is an essential step in any sealing project. However, the type of prep work required will depend on whether the installation is existing or new. In fresh installations, hopefully all that will be required is a sweep of the surface area to remove any debris or loose sand. You might consider pressure cleaning if you’re working with a larger area.

Older paving will need a more thorough approach to preparation before you’re able to commence with the sealing stage. Your paving blocks must be meticulously cleaned so that there’s no sign of any tyre marks, spills, stains or dirt. Additionally, you should wash any algae or lichen that has attached to the paving. Pressure washing is the most effective way to complete your prep work, and you’ll find that it also helps to remove weeds and excess jointing sand.

Once you have cleaned your block paving, you must leave it to dry out completely before you can begin coating with Resiblock ‘22’.

Choosing The Right Conditions

Keeping an eye on the local weather forecast before you begin any type of paving sealant work is imperative. Resiblock ’22’ should be applied in conditions ranging from 3 to 30 degrees Celsius, therefore you should avoid any extremes in temperature. If there is any moisture present in your jointing sand, this can prevent bonding from taking place so your paving must be completely dry first. Make sure you check for the possibility of rainfall on the day of your application. Ideally, it shouldn’t rain for at least 8 hours after you have applied a coat of Resiblock ‘22’.

Applying Your Resiblock ’22’ Sealant

Resiblock ‘22’ is designed primarily as a one-coat product, and it’s important to only apply a single coat if you wish to use it with clay block paving. If you would like to apply a second coat to your concrete paving installation, then you can contact Resiblock’s customer service line for guidance.

To apply a coat of sealant, pour out the contents of your Resiblock ‘22’ product and begin spreading it out immediately. A squeegee would be the most suitable tool to complete your application with. Work the sealant carefully into the paving joints so that it completely fills the chamfers. If you find any excess sealant is pooling on top of the surface, this should be dealt with rapidly by using the squeegee to move it into the joints. This is absolutely essential when coating clay paving installations.

Allowing Your Sealant To Dry

So long as you’ve chosen the correct conditions to apply your sealant in, you can expect your paving sealant application to dry in as little as 1-3 hours. Ideally, you will wait for a minimum of 3 hours before walking on top of the coated paving, to ensure that the surface is entirely dry. If you’ve applied Resiblock ‘22’ to a paving installation which welcomes vehicle traffic, such as a driveway, or carpark, then you shouldn’t drive or park on the application for at least 24 hours.

Cleaning Your Tools

Resiblock ‘22’ is a highly effective product and any spills or opened containers will quickly develop a film which is incredibly hard to remove. Therefore, it’s essential that you clean up any spills of sealant as you go and dispose of half-used kegs. Any tools that you’ve used throughout the coating application process should be cleaned immediately using Resiclean.
