Norwich Town Centre

Problem:

Norwich City Centre is a bustling thriving town with many shoppers, businesses and tourists taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings and historic buildings found in the city centre.

Norwich City Council had invested heavily in the city centre and, as part of a regeneration project, specified Marshalls ‘Saxon flags’ 450mm x 450mm for installation in ‘Prince of Wales Road’. The light colour flags were chosen for their style and because they blended well with their surroundings.

The heavy cleaning regime implemented by the Council in order to keep the paving looking pristine, and the staining from residual oils and chewing gum was causing problems. The sand was being eroded from the 3 – 5 mm joints between the pavers.

Solution:

Resiblock Limited advised Norwich City Council that installing Resiblock Resiecco would eliminate these problems, by sealing the sand in the joints between the pavers and coating the porous surface of the flags themselves. Resiblock worked with the contractors ‘City Care’ and undertook a site trial.

In September 2003 City Care installed 7,000 m2 of Resiblock Resiecco with the minimum of fuss. The material is swept across the flags and into the joints of the pavers with a watering can and the surplus removed with a squeegee.

Benefits:

Resiecco is a water based product that is environmentally friendly. The area sealed was completed in a matter of hours and light pedestrian traffic was reinstated after four hours, ensuring minimum disruption to the surrounding area.
