Friargate High Street, Preston
The Site
The highly anticipated Friargate High Street in Preston has reopened following a revamp which aims to attract investment, new retailers and solve the area’s empty unit issue, in one of Lancashire’s most popular high streets. The overhaul has seen the installation of new paving and cycleways to the already pedestrianised area.
Problem
With the anticipated arrival of a host of new vendors, Lancashire County Council foresaw that an increase in footfall traffic could lead joint destabilisation and ultimately trip hazards and paving failure. With a large amount of the new vendors set to be food and drink outlets, the Council were also keen for a solution that could provide stain prevention.
Solution
Lancashire County Council contacted Resiblock directly to discuss which of Resiblock’s commercial range of sealers would be most suitable for the challenges of the project. Due to the specialist nature of the face mix/aggregate-topped blocks, the surface profile of the paviour required to be treated as though they were a natural stone. This led to Resiblock specifying the use of Resiblock ‘22’ WB, which provides all the benefits of Resiblock ‘22’, such as joint stabilisation and food and drink staining protection but is able to be used on all paver types used in the commercial market.
Benefits
Stabilisation of the sand filled joint notwithstanding cleaning regimes and trafficking whilst imparting the following additional benefits:
- Prevents jointing sand loss from cleaning regimes & heavy footfall
- Significantly reduces staining by food and drink
- Virtually eliminates residual staining by chewing gum oils
