Former Trinity House School, Hull

The Site

A £50,000 facelift scheme to one of Hull’s most historic sites has seen the former Trinity House School being demolished to make way for a new 65 space public car park. In addition to the car park, the new-look courtyard will also double as an events space for festivals, markets, concerts etc.

The project is one of the most ambitious in the recent history of the ancient Trinity House charity, which is based in Hull’s Old Town, and was triggered by the decision to relocate the historic mid-19th century school to new premises in George Street. Covering 25,000 sq. ft., the remodelled courtyard is flanked on all sides by listed historic buildings, which form part of the Trinity House estate.

The Challenge

Concern was expressed about jointing sand erosion and paver de-stabilisation to the Car Parks concrete block paved areas from the high volumes of vehicular traffic, pedestrian footfall and cleaning regimes (i.e. pressure washing, vacuum sweeping etc.) and environmental elements.

The Solution

Resiblock ‘22’ was specified to solve the issues of concern. A one pack moisture cured specialist pre-polymer urethane paving sealer. Resiblock ‘22’ is utilised at Aircraft Aprons to prevent jointing sand erosion in the most arduous of circumstances including jet thrust from aircraft movement.

Benefits

Easy application, requires no specialist labour; its function is to bind the particles of sand together and to adhere to the vertical faces of the paver to seal, stabilise and protect paving and prevent its removal from both natural and manmade forces. It will inhibit weed and grass growth from the joint whilst providing a significant degree of stain protection. Once cured, it remains fully elastomeric thereby accommodating the small elastic deflections incorporated in the pavement design.
