Alexandra Meadows, Pennyfarthing Homes

The Site

Surrounded by ancient woodland and a crisp sea breeze, the site of Alexandra Meadows in Lymington, Hants, is one of the newest developments by Pennyfarthing Homes. The development is award winning, with a UK Property Awards title in the 2017-18 awards. With a mix of 3- & 4-bedroom houses, 2- & 3-bedroom bungalows plus 2-bedroom starter homes, Alexandra Meadows was praised for its “design, quality and innovation.”

The Challenge

With 79 properties erected on the development, many with spaces for more than one vehicle, major concerns were expressed regarding the volume of traffic, and the affects this would have on the concrete block paving being used for the roadways. There was also a concern that the trafficking would cause sand loss between the joints, eventually leading to paver destabilisation.

The Solution

Having been successfully used at the Bloor Homes site ‘The Greenway’ in Didcot for the exact same purpose as the requirements of WSP, the engineers at the Alexandra Meadows site advised that Resiblock ‘22’ should be the sealer used on the project. The successful use of Resiblock ‘22’ ensured the stabilisation of the jointing sand, whilst still allowing for small elastic deflections to prevent the blocks from breaking.
