RESIECCO

TECHNICAL SHEET AND METHOD STATEMENT

PURPOSE

  • Solidly binds jointing sand to prevent removal by vacuum sweepers.
  • Reduces oil and dirt penetration.
  • Acts as stabiliser/dustproofer.
  • Assists the cleaning of oil, dirt and foodstuffs.
  • Has minimum effect on the colour of treated surfaces.
  • Restricts weed/grass growth in joints.

APPLICATIONS

  • Concrete pavers and flags.
  • Block pavers, exposed aggregate panels, concrete slabs, architectural sections, blocks.
  • Pedestrian areas, driveways, swimming pool surrounds, patios, commercial car parks, terraces, warehouse floors.

DESCRIPTION

RESIECCO is based on a thermoplastic acrylic copolymer emulsion. Whitish when in liquid state, it becomes clear when dry. Since it is solvent free it does not give off unpleasant odours, and is therefore ideal for indoor use. It reduces dust formation inside warehouses and factories by preventing crumbling of concrete floors. It gives a very low satin sheen finish that in most cases does not darken treated surfaces, protecting materials while retaining their original colour. It makes cleaning easier by reducing oil and dirt penetration. It resists both calcium and sea salt. Since it reduces their porosity, vertical surfaces will tend to self-clean under rainfall. Above all RESIECCO's tough sand binding formulation makes it ideal for aggressive vacuum swept shopping centres.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Concrete Block Paving - Good surface preparation is essential.

(i) Remove all stains with appropriate RESIBLOCK cleaning products.
(ii) Dissolve efflorescence and remove ground-in dirt on the entire surface using RESIBLOCK E.R.. This ensures uniform results and allows RESIECCO to better penetrate the surface. Pressure washing and grit blasting is the most effective.
(iii) RESIECCO cannot be used on previously sealed surfaces.

Other surfaces - Remove all stains (oil, grease, dust, paint, efflorescence, etc.) with appropriate RESIBLOCK cleaning products.

APPLICATION

Read the Material Safety Data Sheet before using this product. Even RESIECCO can deteriorate paving appearance rather than enhance it if applied over efflorescence or to a dirty or poorly cleaned surface. Proper surface preparation is therefore essential. Make sure that cleaning products have been thoroughly rinsed off.

RESIECCO must be applied to dry paving (check jointing sand) with rain not forecast for 24 hours; ideally paving should be warm to the touch. Residual dampness will inhibit penetration.

STIR CONTENTS WELL, PRIOR TO USE.

RESIECCO requires no thinning or addition of a reactive ingredient. It can be used direct from the container and applied to the surface with a conventional watering can and spread with a RESIBLOCK SQUEEGEE.*

Apply approximately 2 litres at a time (4-5m2) treating a larger area may cause a patchy appearance.

Pour RESIECCO evenly over the surface and remove excess using a RESIBLOCK SQUEEGEE. Allow to dry for 24 hours before walking on the surface, and 72 hours before driving on it. In areas of high aesthetics (e.g. internally) excess sealer can be blotted off with a dry RESI-ROLLER (this prevents streaks/runs).

NOTE. When sealing slabs/flags of an uneven texture (ie riven, 'Yorkstone') it is ESSENTIAL that the first coat is applied sparingly to the surface and 'worked-in' with a sponge, rag or paintbrush, ensuring no sealant is allowed to pool in the depressions.

* An L.P. sprayer or RESI-ROLLER may also be used.

WARNING

RESIECCO must not be allowed to pond on the surface of the pavers or create a surface film. If practical let efflorescence rise to the surface for 8 weeks before cleaning and sealing new block paving. Do not apply to surfaces cooler than 5ºC (maximum temperature 30degrees C). Do not apply more than one coat at a time and wait until this coat is completely worn before applying a new coat; an over-accumulation of sealant may cause, after a while, whitening of the surface. Do not allow RESIECCO onto areas which are not to be treated. Once curing has started RESIECCO is difficult to remove. Clean off accidental spillages immediately with a damp cloth.

RESIECCO on some surfaces (particularly low porosity or wet-cast products) may in certain circumstances temporarily reduce the SRV. Please trial on an un-trafficked area first to confirm suitability. If necessary a fine aggregate can be added between 2 coats to provide excellent grip characteristics.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Safety clothing is recommended. Do not use in the presence of foodstuffs. See current Safety Data Sheet.

CURING

Curing commences immediately, leaving the surface dry after approximately 8 hours (depending on weather conditions). Protect from rain for at least 24 hours.

APPEARANCE

RESIECCO contains micronised particles that produce an opaque appearance when wet but will be clear when dry. We strongly recommend the application of a trial area where the appearance of the treated surface is of particular importance and to test that the paving is sufficiently porous to absorb the solution evenly and without leaving a surface film.

COVERAGE

1.8-2.6m²/litre, depending on the porosity of the treated surface. It is recommended that a small area be tested to determine the exact amount needed.

PACKAGING

5 and 25 litre containers

RESIECCO - METHOD STATEMENT SUMMARY*

1 Make sure the surface and jointing sand are THOROUGHLY DRY and free from dirt. Paving containing dampness will significantly reduce cure time.

2 Ensure that RESIECCO is only applied when there is no risk of rain within the next 24 hours.

3 Do not apply in extremes of temperature (below 5o C or above 30o C)

4 Ensure paving is thoroughly swept and that no jointing sand remains in the chamfers of the pavers.

5 Stir contents well

6 Apply to surface using a watering can (with the rose) and remove all surplus with the RESIBLOCK SQUEEGEE. If applying to a riven surface, ensure RESIECCO is rubbed into the surface with a clean rag to prevent pooling in the depressions. In areas of high aesthetics "blot off" excess sealer with a dry RESI-ROLLER.

7 Accurate application rates are critical to ensure full joint stabilisation (typically 1 litre/2m2 100 x 200 CBP).

8 RESIECCO is usually only applied as a 1 coat system

9 Avoid walking on the sealed area for 8 hours after application and do not drive motor vehicles on the surface for 72 hours.

10 Always wear protective gloves and goggles. Please refer to current MSDS.

11 All uncured sealant and tools should be cleaned immediately using water and detergent

To assist in improving aesthetics, removing efflorescence and unifying absorption rate, pre-treat surface with RESIBLOCK. E.R.. Ensure product is rinsed off, and the substrate allowed to thoroughly dry, prior to sealing with RESIECCO.

RESIECCO cannot be used on any previously sealed surfaces.
